USAA Auto Insurance

Wondering if USAA auto insurance is your best bet? Follow these 3 easy steps and you are guaranteed to save time and money, while getting the right auto insurance coverage for you.

1. Find out more about the company

USAA has a unique market positioning. The company’s slogan is “We’are committed to serving our military and veterans who have honourably served and their families”. It all started in 1925 when a small group of officers decided to insure each others vehicle because no one else was willing to do so. Since then, that small group has grown into a big organization dealing not only with auto insurance, but with a whole range of other financial services.

Organizations like JD Power and AM Best aim to give up to date ratings of insurance companies. However, since USAA is available only to the military, they aren’t really part of the insurance ranking.

2. Discover what other customers have to say about USAA auto insurance

There are a number of ways you could do that. You can speak with people you know – friends, family and colleagues, who have purchases auto insurance with USAA. Asked them if they felt the price is seemed reasonable. How was customer service? Did they ever had to file a claim and if yes, was the process difficult?

The easiest way to find that information is spending a couple of minutes researching online. Check out the USAA official facebook page and customer reviews on consumer forums. We have done that already and it seems that most customers didn’t seem especially pleased with USAA’ customer service:

“…The claims department has been rude, discourteous, and unhelpful through this entire frustrating ordeal…”

“…USAA refuses to pay for the first 4 days of rental because they have a “No Thursday drop-off” policy that does not allow customers to rent a car from Thursday-Sunday.”

There are positive ones too of course:

“We are saving over 50% by switching from Geico to USAA…thanks guys!”

It is up to you to decide how much other customers opinions will affect your choice. Let’s not forget that most people write reviews only when they have had a bad experience and rarely comment when everything is fine.

3. Compare quotes from other auto insurance companies and see for yourself

Comparing quotes from a number of auto insurance companies is the single most important thing you should do. Don’t just relay on company representatives or others’ experiences. Put yourself in a position where you can make the right decision based on facts.

Insurance experts advice everyone to get quotes from at least 3 companies. Each insurer uses a different formula to calculate rates. Don’t be surprised if the difference in cost is huge. Once company’s high risk driver is another one’s best customer. There is a chance USAA auto insurance may not be your cheapest option.

The fact is that most people overpay on auto insurance. Why? Because they are two lazy to check all their options and usually go with he first insurance company to give them a quote.

If you could save up to $450, what would you spend it on?
